How to Make a Create Mod Server
On this page
Create is the mod that turns Minecraft into an engineering game: rotating shafts, conveyor belts, moving contraptions, trains across the map. It is even more fun on a server, where a whole group builds one shared factory — and that is also where it needs the most care, because big machines are heavy on the server.
This guide covers which Minecraft version and loader to choose today, how to set the server up yourself or on a host, the addons worth knowing, how much RAM to plan for and how to keep a growing factory from lagging the world.
Create today: versions and loaders
| Minecraft | Loader | Latest Create | Java | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.21.1 | NeoForge | 6.0.10 (April 2026) | 21 | New servers: the newest Create and most current addons |
| 1.20.1 | Forge | 6.0.8 | 17 | Addons that never moved on, such as Steam 'n' Rails |
| 1.20.1 | Fabric | Create Fabric 6.0.8.1 | 17 | Fabric mod lists (a separate, maintained port) |
For a new server, NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1 is the default choice: it gets Create's updates first. The Create team skipped Minecraft 1.21.2 to 1.21.11 and is working on the next major version, so 1.21.1 is the current target. Since Create 6, the libraries it used to need (Flywheel, Ponder) are built into the jar.
Want it running in minutes? A HytHost modded Minecraft server with room for Create starts at €6.47/mo.
See modded plansRAM and CPU for Create
The Create team publishes no official server requirements, so this is our recommendation. Create itself is light; what grows is what players build with it — and big machines cost CPU as much as memory, because every moving contraption and train is simulated on the server's main thread.
| Your setup | RAM to aim for | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Create with a few addons, small group | 5 GB | MC Gold €6.47/mo |
| Create plus a solid mod list, big factories | 9 GB | MC Diamond €11.65/mo |
| Large Create-based modpacks | 16 GB | MC Emerald €20.72/mo |
Create is also part of many big modpacks; for the biggest of them, see how to make an ATM10 server.
Path A: set up a Create server yourself
- Install Java 21 (Java 17 for a 1.20.1 server).
- Install the loader. Run the NeoForge 1.21.1 installer and choose Install server into an empty folder. Create 6.0.10 needs NeoForge 21.1.219 or newer.
- Start once, set
eula=trueineula.txt, and stop. - Add the mods. Put the Create jar and your addons into
mods. Download each addon for the same Minecraft version and loader as Create. - Set the memory in
user_jvm_args.txt, for example-Xmx6G, and start the server.
The general steps for any modded server, including port forwarding, are in how to make a modded Minecraft server.
Popular Create addons, and the version catch
Addons extend Create with new machines and systems. The catch is that each one follows its own release schedule, so check that every addon exists for your Minecraft version and loader before you commit to it. As of October 2026:
- Create Crafts & Additions (electricity and more) — available for NeoForge 1.21.1.
- Create: Enchantment Industry (automated enchanting and experience) — available for NeoForge 1.21.1.
- Create: Steam 'n' Rails (more for trains) — still Minecraft 1.20.1 only. A group that wants it has to run Create 6.0.8 on 1.20.1.
Every addon a player sees in the world has to be installed on their game too.
Path B: a hosted Create server
- Pick a plan on modded Minecraft hosting.
- Install a Create-based modpack from the Modpacks tab in the panel, or run a NeoForge 1.21.1 server and upload Create and its addons to
modswith the file manager. - Check Java in the Startup tab: Java 21 for 1.21.1, Java 17 for 1.20.1.
- Start it and give friends the address.
Automatic backups are included — take one before updating Create or an addon, since mod updates are the most common way a factory breaks.
Big factories need headroom: MC Diamond with 9 GB is €11.65/mo, and upgrades keep your world.

Every player needs Create, and the same version as the server, plus the same addons. A modpack makes this easy: everyone installs the same pack version through a launcher.
When the factory grows, the server feels it. What helps:
- Limit the biggest contraptions. Create's server config (
create-server.tomlin the world'sserverconfigfolder) caps how many blocks a contraption can move (maxBlocksMoved, 2048 by default) and how long trains can be (maxAssemblyLength, 128). - Do not keep everything loaded. Chunk loaders keep distant factories running all the time; use them only where they matter.
- Pre-generate the map before a train network sends players far and wide.
- Measure before you guess. A spark profile shows which machines cost the most — see how to fix Minecraft server lag.
Frequently asked questions
For a new server, NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, which gets the newest Create (6.0.10). Forge 1.20.1 makes sense for addons that only exist there, such as Steam 'n' Rails. Fabric is served by a separate port, Create Fabric, currently for 1.20.1 only.
There is no official figure. We recommend about 5 GB for Create with a few addons and a small group, 9 GB for a solid mod list and big factories, and 16 GB for large Create-based modpacks. Big contraptions and trains also need a fast CPU.
Any addon built for the same Minecraft version and loader as your Create. On NeoForge 1.21.1 that includes Create Crafts & Additions and Create: Enchantment Industry; Steam 'n' Rails is still 1.20.1 only. Every player installs the same addons.
No. Create adds blocks and machines that the game has to know about, so every player needs Create, and the same version and addons as the server.
Create on its own, plus a few addons, is easy to manage and light on RAM. A Create-based modpack saves you choosing and matching mods, and everyone installs the same pack in one step, but it needs more memory.
Build the factory, not the server
HytHost modded Minecraft hosting runs Create on high-clock CPUs with automatic backups and one-click modpack installs — from €6.47/mo.
