EssentialsX Guide: Commands, Permissions and Setup

EssentialsX is the plugin behind the commands players expect on almost every Minecraft server: /home, /spawn, /tpa, /warp, kits, private messages and a simple economy, plus the kick, mute and ban tools staff need.
This guide covers which EssentialsX modules to install, the commands you will actually use with their permission nodes, and how to set up homes, kits and chat with LuckPerms.
Install EssentialsX and its modules
EssentialsX is a core plugin plus optional modules. Download them from essentialsx.net and use the same version for every module.

- Put the jars in
plugins, together with Vault and a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms. Without Vault, prefixes and group features do not work. - Restart the server. EssentialsX creates
config.ymlandkits.ymlinplugins/Essentials.
EssentialsX 2.22.0 fixed several item duplication and crash exploits, so do not run an older version. It runs on Paper (recommended) and Spigot; Folia and hybrid servers are not supported.

Right after install, almost every EssentialsX command works only for operators. Players get permission denied until you give their group the nodes. The pattern is simple: essentials. plus the command name — essentials.home, essentials.tpa, essentials.spawn.
With LuckPerms:

Homes, kits and chat formatting
More homes for ranks. In config.yml, sethome-multiple sets limits per rank — by default 3 for default, 5 for vip and 10 for staff. A player needs both essentials.sethome.multiple and essentials.sethome.multiple.vip to get the vip limit; essentials.sethome.multiple.unlimited removes the cap.
Kits. Fill your inventory with the items and run /createkit starter 86400 — a kit called starter, claimable once a day (the delay is in seconds; -1 means only once). Kits are stored in kits.yml, and players need essentials.kits.starter to use it.
Chat with ranks. With EssentialsX Chat, Vault and LuckPerms installed, prefixes set in LuckPerms appear automatically. The format lives under chat: in config.yml; {DISPLAYNAME} already includes the prefix, so do not add {PREFIX} as well or it shows twice.
EssentialsX on a HytHost server
- Run Paper. Switch the server to Paper in the Version tab if it is not already.
- Upload the jars — EssentialsX, the modules you chose, Vault and LuckPerms — to
pluginsin the file manager or over SFTP, then restart from the panel. - Edit
config.ymlandkits.ymlin the file manager and use/essentials reload, or restart, to apply them. - Take a backup before updating EssentialsX, and update all modules together.

EssentialsX commands work only for operators until you give players the permission nodes, such as essentials.home and essentials.tpa. Add them to the default group with a permissions plugin like LuckPerms.
Set the limits under sethome-multiple in config.yml, then give the player both essentials.sethome.multiple and essentials.sethome.multiple.<rank>. Use essentials.sethome.multiple.unlimited for no limit.
